ANTIBIOTIC


ANTIBIOTIC:-
"A chemical substance used to kill or inhibit the growth of bacteria".

BACTERICIDAL:-  Kill the Bacteria.

BACTERIOSTATIC:- Stop the growth of Bacteria.

CLASSIFICATION:-

  • CELL WALL SYNTHESIS INHIBITORS:- (Bactericidal)
  1. PENICILLIN GROUP:-  amoxicillin, cloxacillin
  2. CEPHALOSPORIN GROUP:-
a) 1ST GENERATION: cephradine, cephalexin
b) 2ND GENERATION: cefaclor
c) 3RD GENERATION: cifixime, ceftriaxone, cefotaxime


  • PROTEIN SYNTHESIS INHIBITOR:- (Bacteriostatic)
  1. TETRACYCLIN GROUP:-  doxycyclin, minocyclin
  2. MACROLIDE GROUP:- erythromycin, clarithromycin, azithromycin


  • DNA GYRASE INHIBITOR:- (Bactericidal)
QUONOLONE GROUP:- ofloxacin, ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin, moxifloxacin
